Black - Eye Friday...let's all take a step back.

Hey, Hon. Come sit down here with me a minute. You caught me feelin' a lil bit blue. I'm sheddin' some tears 'bout that poor man who got trampled to death by a crowd of 2,000 at the Wal- Mart. They put a gal 8 months pregnant along with 3 other folks in the hospital too. Looks like the lady, her baby, and the others is gone be aright. This happened up in New York, but that don't matter. Could a happend anywhere. I gaurangotdamtee you that. You jist kiddin' yourself iffin you don't thank so. This fella was 34 years old and workin' temporary as a over-night stocker at the Wal-Mart. From that sentence alone, I don't need to spell it out fer you that his life probably was not goin' accordin' to plan. I didn't know him, but I doubly doubt that is what he had in mind fer hiself. And anybody that dies from gittin' trampled to death at Wal-Mart is bound to want his money back on that. I know I would. That's a bad way to go, there.

I'm thankin' Black-Eye Friday would be a better name fer this day than Black Friday. I wouldn't shop on this day fer love nor money. Crowds really ain't my brand, even nice ones. But crowds that rip metal doors oft hinges and jist walk rite all over folks..... The idea of Black Friday is to go and buy all the crap you gone give people fer the Holidays 'cause it is on sale today. Jist come on down and buy, buy buy all you can buy, buy, buy. Well, I don't know nobody that needs nothin' that bad. Iffin they did, you should have got it fore now. Thoughtless gifts bought under duress rarely thrill me. Most of us already got so much more than we need, me included. Iffin I was Gawd, I'd consider cancelin' Christmas this year to teach folks a lesson. But, so far, it ain't up to me. Don't thank I won't speak to Him 'bout it though.

Darlin', I'm sorry I ain't bein' too much fun today. I'm jist real disappointed. I'm preachin' to the choir here. I wish I had a way to git in touch with them Wal- Mart shoppers that rip doors oft hinges and trample people to buy a Wii on sale. I been in prison enough to know their type. Nothin' is ever their fault, it's a way of life fer some. Shug, that's what makes it even more important fer us to go out of our way to be kind and patient. Give folks a break when we can, cut 'em some slack. When we're wrong, admit it. Go the extra mile- cause we can. We gone rock steady.... Those of us who is still capable of behavin' like humans need to rally now. We're becomin' like one of them endangered species. Come here and give me a hug. Now, let's mix us up some dranks and do a bit of shoppin' on line. How does that sound? You always know what to say to make me feel better, Lovebug.

Gawsh, I was speechless when I read the story. I was gonna blog about it, but just couldn't!

What a senseless, senseless tragedy.

Not only am I disgusted and embarrassed by those stampeders, I will be even more disgusted when Wal-Mart is the only one who gets into trouble, letting all the assholes who participated in said stampede get off scot-free and thereby enabling them to do it again next Black Eye Friday.

It's 7:15pm on Black-Eye Friday and I have yet to leave the house today because I don't want to be "out there" in all that.

eve cleveland said...

Nanny,
You git a Amen from me, Sis! I'd damn sure rather pay a cover charge than fight a crowd. Hope all the crap them hoarders bought is defective in some way and they got to stand in line to return it.

Hi Eve. I saw that story and was as disgusted as everyone else by it. Somebody died and other people were injured so some other people could save a few bucks at Wal-Mart. No great political purpose; no fighting to free the oppressed; the stampeders just wanted to save a few bucks. What does that say about our society? The way I'm feeling about it, I think I want to get thoroughly drunk and forget about the craziness and inhumanity in the world. Have you got any spare room and spare booze in your trailer?

No kidding...It makes me feel ashamed to be a human being right now.

Amen, Eve. Nicely done indeed.

The whole thing is appalling, for God's sakes.

I make a point of never going near a store on the idiotically named "Black Friday" just to make a point that the whole idea is brainless and cattle-like and I won't participate.

I was thinking earlier today that shoppers should boycott that day in general just to send a message to retail industry that we don't need to be treated like cattle - although after today's sad event, maybe that's what some people are after all.

So sad.

Great post, Eve...

Anna,
Girl, I never shopped on Black Friday neither, jist cause I thought it was silly. Now it done made me sick! Maybe iffin we start now, we can git all our friends who don't shop on Black Friday anyway - to REALLY not do it next year. As my grandmother used to say, "That will do!" (That meant you better shut up and sit down.)

How sad that we as a society have come to this. It has absolutely nothing to do with Christmas, Kwanza or whatever holiday one feels the need to stand in a crowd of 2,000 for waiting for store doors to open. It's just plain greed. More disturbing was that Wal-Mart opened after this man's death and that in itself reaffirms that sales are worth more than a human life, and the cycle of greed continues.

eve cleveland said...

Horatio,
Thanks, Hon. That means a lot comin' from you.

Girl, we got to think of a way to bark up the right tree. Them folks that don't care won't care, no matter what. But those of us who've had enough can do something.

Sadly I expected it to happen somewhere, I think that all the stores that participate in this black eye friday stupidity should be held accoutable & prosecuted with charges from assault to manslaughter cause they know it's gonna happen,I mean they could run the sale prices from 11/28 to 12/24 but noooooooo!

Just another example of why I believe Humans are NOT the most inteligent speicies on this planet, God may well have intended us to be but then he gave us free will oops.

Sorry for the rant darlin but this kind of stupidity really pisses me off. Can I say pisses here? :)

eve cleveland said...

Truckindog....
There is a time to rant. And yep, you can say pissed here.

What blows me away is that someone was knocked over, laying on the ground and, instead of stopping to see if he was ok, people just kept trampling over him. And all for what? To save .93 cents on two-ply toilet paper.

Black Eye Friday is right Eve.

Darlin,' the folks that continued to shop after that is the folks we can't hope to reach. Like I said, I know how they operate. So, it's those of us who see the lunacy in that type of behaviour who have to stand up now.

Girl, let me tell you I just sat at home with my momma and we chewed the fat.

Priceless.

We saw the video of the barbarians tearing down the doors of the Wal-Mart and trampling that poor man to death.

We wondered. What the hell was in that store that was worth killing someone for?

What was in that store that was better than having a heartfelt conversation with a loved one or friend?

We stayed home on Black-Eyed Friday. I think that was the best bargain anywhere.

Peace - Rene

Prayers for that man and his family
and for all of us to have the wisdom and strength to do His will.

Brian said...

This was a terrible tragedy. I hope Walmart takes care of his arrangements and family.

The worst thing to me when they announced the store was closing due to the death, people were angry and complaining they waited since last night.

We definitely need to take a step back.

Brian,
You sure right 'bout that. I'd like to see Wal-Mart roll back more than prices.

I just shop from the comfort of my desk on the Black Friday...and want nothing to do with the rampage...that to me is not what lovingly looking for gifts is all about.

I cannot even begin to imagine the He** the family is going through over what? An on sale video game or television?

PLEEEEZE...

Poppet,

I just got back after four days at the shore. No TV, no computers, no news, no men....

I am lucky enough to live in Philly, which means I never have to darken the portals to Hell: Malls. Also, I have boycotted Wal-Mart for years, due to their awful treatment of humans.

They out-source almost every product, pay their employees such pitiful wages that they cannot afford company health insurance, have scant regard for the environment, (a couple of box-hedges surrounded by mulch doesn't count), use a bloated emoticon as their signature TV ad star, use loss-leaders (promoted sales items) as a way to suck the ignorant in, threaten employees to vote for McCain, suck cold, hard, Canadian Moose Dick....The list goes on.

I avoid Black Souled Friday, for all the reasons you all do. My time is worth more than the few bucks I might save in a sale. I also believe sales make you think you want/need an item.

As things go, everything will only get cheaper as it gets close to Christmas, as most of us aren't buying. I'm with you on the fact that we all have too much. I make my presents for my friends. For others, I take them to dinner, or give a book of coupons of my time, that they can use to have me paint/babysit/smack them like they want it!

As to the bastards who are part of this death, an ancient curse upon you all:

MAY THE FLEAS OF A THOUSAND CAMELS INFECT YOUR ARMPITS AND MAY YOUR RIGHT EAR WITHER OFF AND FALL INTO YOUR LEFT POCKET.

We live in an obscene world. The more we refuse to be part of the sickness, the better we all will be.

Now, where's my Moon-pie, sweetie?

Such a meaningless death.

AngieSS said...

I'm with you Eve all the way. I can't believe that folks get so caught up in all this "sales" bullshit that they could actually just trample right over somebody. It just makes me sick to think that this is what Christmas has become. Forget family, friends, and special memories together...bring on the "I got the best deal on this TV"!!! Sheesh, I'm all for canceling Christmas -- at least until folks remember what it's really about!!!

XOXO

This consumer whoring has got to stop.

I mean, if a place like Wal*Mart promotes people behaving more like scared animals than people, than obviously people are too dumb to think for themselves.

I say if they're gonna act like cattle, treat em like cattle, with cages and cattle prods!

Hey.... can I get a job cattle prodding wall mart people?

I hope all those people were rushing to buy stuff to give to the needy this Christmas...somehow I dought it.
